101 in 1001: Month 2 Update

Two months are down! I’m actually proud of the progress that I made this second month. I won’t even distract you with an introduction telling you all the things that were completed; I’ll get straight to the point.
  • I took Connor sailing! Actually, my dad took Connor saying but that’s just details. We went on Easter. When I originally started this list my dad didn’t have a sailboat and he recently purchased one so more sailing is in the future.connor sailing
  • I got a new job! On April 4, 2015 I interviewed for a job at the nearby Outdoor YMCA as a camp counselor. It’s just one step closer to eventually running a summer camp of my own! It’s only a seasonal job, but nonetheless it’s a new job!
  • I inspired someone to complete a list of their own! My friend Becca has her own blog (which obviously you should check her out) and she will be graduating the next few weeks from college! I know, we’re all so proud of her! She’s told me that her goal is to start her own 101 in 1001 challenge after graduation! Keep checking her blog (and mine, I’ll post a link when she starts it!) for more details!
  • I ran more miles towards my 500 mile goal! I'm currently only at 98/500. It’s been a slow start, but I promise it’ll pick up especially now that the Tone It Up Bikini Series 2015 is underway!
  • I went to a MLB game. Actually I’ve gone to more than one MLB game. I went to Opening weekend for the Braves at Turner Field (one of the last) for my friend’s birthday and my birthday! We also purchased a Atlanta Braves spring pass which was $50 a ticket and got us into every home game during April and May! So more games to come! There will be a blog post review the Braves Spring Pass coming up shortly!
  • I went camping. Connor and I camped out at the YMCA a few weeks ago for a night. It was really nice! I always sleep better outside. This was also completed before the Month 1 Update was posted, but I completely forgot it was even on my list!
  • I went to a new brewery! I went to Terrapin for my friend’s 22nd birthday! Terrapin was an awesome brewery and I got in free since it was my birthday too!

Just gonna keep trucking along with this list, because I love it so much! I’m amazed at what I’ve already completed and even more amazed at how much more I have to go! If you want to see my full list click here!

Travel: 24 Hours in Athens, Georgia! Hoppy Birthday!

athens ga operation twenties

About a week ago I drove the hour and a half up to Athens, Georgia to visit a high school friend for her 22nd birthday. I was ecstatic. I haven't been to Athens since Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan played in Sanford stadium a few years back, and that night ended up terribly. We got lost and none of the policemen would help us. That night completely changed my view on Athens and I never went back, until last Friday, April 17.

I arrived around 2 P.M. and a waited in my car for my friend to get home from class. We immediately headed downtown to her favorite place, Pauley's. We only got a drink and chatted and caught up because it has been so long since we've talked or even hung out. I got my classic rum and coke (I really do need to change it up...) and she got Pauley's Manmosa and a tequila shot courtesy of yours truly. A Manmosa is essentially a mimosa with vodka. We headed back after about an hour at Pauley's  and started to get ready for our evening.

We waited for the rest of the group to arrive, which included many of my high school friends, and then we headed to Terrapin Brewery by Uber. You've probably heard of Terrapin beers including Hopsecutioner, Hopselection and Liquid Bliss. Terrapin costs  about $10 to enter and receive a glass. You get 8 "tastes". "Tastes" are about a half of a pint glass of beer, sometimes the people pouring the beer go a little over. I got lucky because my birthday had been less than a week before so I got in for free AND a free "Hoppy Birthday" glass! I started with the Hopselection which is probably my favorite Terrapin beer. We were there from about 5-7:30 and Terrapin is only open on Fridays from 4:30-7:30.

After Terrapin we met up with a few other girls and headed downtown for dinner and then a night out! We ended up eating a this place called Taco Stand. It was absolutely delicious. I got a pitcher of Margaritas for $14! I got grilled chicken quesadilla and I honestly could've eaten 65 more because it was that good! The bar we started (and ended) at was called Magnolia's. We weren't there for long, but a friend's mom was visiting and she's so sweet and bought us all our first drink. I got a gin and tonic which was definitely more gin than tonic. I threw about four limes in the drink to help it out.

The next morning I woke up super early (props  to working at a breakfast place for the past three years...) and waited until my friend woke up. We needed breakfast so we headed to a place called Athens Bagel Company. This place has different types of in-store made cream cheeses and you can get a bagel sandwich like I did!

Overall I came home from Athens with at least 24 hours of memories and a full belly. What more could a girl ask for?

Toned Up Tuesday: Week 1-4 Results with Fit Nika 101!

Hello Fitness Babes!

Today is the day! Today is the day for the first results update from weeks 1-4 on Fit Nika 101's gym guide! Drumroll please.....

I can see that my legs have toned up (booty progress anyone?) and I know my arms have gotten significantly stronger. I'm almost positive my abs would be a more present if I had eaten correctly this past weekend (forgive me abs, macros don't count on your birthday weekend). So this is it! I'm a little pumped because Nika herself just liked my picture and I literally fangirled SO hard.

I have goals for the next 4 weeks of this program and I hope you guys decide to help keep me on track to complete them by following me and holding me accountable!
  • Follow macros more accurately.
  • Eat more protein early in the morning. Holds off hunger better for myself.
  • Stop skipping workouts (Shoulders and core...I'm sorry...)
  • Bump up squat weight.
  • Find a lifting buddy.
  • Complete the Tone It Up Bikini Series - but never put the Fit Nika guide on the back burner.
  • #100BySummer because my mileage running goal is looking pretty sad....

Nika has been an insane motivator for myself during the past few weeks because she's also been preparing for her first bikini competition! It helps to know that someone that inspires you really does understand the struggles of getting fit and eating healthy when pizza is everywhere you look. I can't wait to continue with her program and continue feeling like I'm on top of the world. I totally suggest checking her out whether its on her Tumblr or on her Instagram

Who I Am

Hello, I'm Colleen!

I'm a twenty-two year old college-almost-dropout who is still lost in this great big world and only knows that she wants to see every part of its beauty before dying.

I am a big sister to Katie, a girlfriend to Connor, a best friend to a small, but perfect, group of friends. I love the Red Sox, but I'll support the Atlanta Braves as my home team. The New York Jets are quite possibly the most frustrating NFL team in existence with the Tennessee Volunteers coming in for a close second. I can be the sweetest person you've ever met, but I'm not afraid to say what is on my mind.

katie and colleen thanksgiving

Sometimes I vent more than once about the same topic, but I say I'm passionate about what is being discussed even though that's not completely true. I'm probably annoyed. Sometimes I don't say anything at all and my chronic bitch-face will settle in and everyone around me will think I'm so beyond angry that they'll keep asking me whats wrong - which just happens to be my biggest peeve. Convenient, right?

My goal is to find myself and who I feel I'm supposed to be. There are so many things I want to accomplish in my lifetime and none of them seem to relate enough to pick just one major in college. Hello colleges why can't I double major in Math Education and Business with a double minor in underwater basketweaving and craft beer-brewing?

I began this blog originally as Operation Undergrad but I soon realized I had more goals than just receiving a college degree. That was when I realized I needed to make this topic more broad and more relatable to who I really am. Enter Operation Twenties. I want to document my attempts at cooking, my fitness goals and achievements, my DIY anything and maybe my shots at being fashionable. Here and there I hope to travel and fulfill my hearts biggest goal of seeing the world with my own eyes, not just behind a computer screen while scrolling through Pinterest.

I hope I've interested you enough for you to stick around and if not, keeping browsing my page and I'm sure we'll find something we have in common. Don't be afraid to say hello!

OOTW: April 1-9, 2015

I've decided that I'm just going to put up whatever outfits I wear during the weeks onto this weekly blog post because if I don't there would never be a post! If you want to see what other outfits I have worn you should check out my previous post.  This is a compilation of the past 9 days, April 1, 2015 to yesterday, April 9, 2015. Enjoy!

April 1, 2015. I ran some errands and had lunch with a long-time friend. I ended up getting a little sunburnt but I'm also prepared by the stockpiles of aloe I have hidden around my house/car/work.

April 4, 2015. This day was super busy, stressful and nerve-racking for myself. I worked in the kitchen as expo in the morning and then headed home for a quick change and hair style moment to get ready for an interview I had for a summer job.

April 7, 2015. I had the day off from work so I spent most of it outside. It was really cold in the morning so I headed to coffee and bagels in Bulkhead with my best friend in a long sleeve shirt. By the end of the day I was in a tank top and had to apply extra sunscreen! Spring in the south....

Toned Up Tuesday: 4 Tips to Help Motivate You

toned up tuesday operation twenties

I would LOVE to update you on my progress with the 16-week Fit Nika Gym Guide but we’ll have to save that for next Toned Up Tuesday. For April 7’s Toned Up Tuesday I felt that it was important to talk about my biggest fitness motivators and what I do to stay on track with my goals.

  1. Follow fitness accounts on Instagram. I originally started following a lot of women from the Tone It Up community on Instagram, which then lead me to Kayla Itsine’s community and then to more weight lifting Instagrams. I’ve always followed @FitNika101 on both her personal and fitness accounts. I love following them all. My favorite accounts are:
  2. Create a fitness account on Instagram. I created my fitness Instagram about a year ago for the 2014 Tone It Up Bikini Series, but fell off with regular posting fairly quickly. I wasn’t completely serious about my fitness until recently. I noticed though that the pictures you’re the most nervous about posting are the ones where you receive the most feedback. Not all of it is completely nice - mostly because of people outside of the fitness Instagram world - but the people in the Tone It Up community and apart of “Kayla’s Army” and other fitness accounts are so supportive and motivating. They remind you that you’re doing this for you not anyone else and I really love that.
  3. Make your phone wallpaper a motivational quote or print out your favorite motivational posts and put them up where you would see them everyday.  This is something you can do for any goal not just a fitness one. For awhile I was feeling really bad about myself so I posted a quote that really made me want to work harder on Instagram and kept the quote as the background on my phone until very recently. It worked. I saw it everyday and even when my brain didn’t actually “read” the quote I knew it was there and it was a constant reminder.
  4. A photo posted by Colleen|Operation Twenties (@colleentonesup) on
  5. Take Pictures. I take a progress picture almost every single time I workout. I don’t notice the day-to-day changes but when I compare the pictures to pictures I’ve taken in the past I’m reminded how far I’ve come and it makes me want to continue doing what I’ve been doing so that I can finally reach the goal I’ve been working so hard for.

I hope this tips help you gain some motivation or even continue the motivation you already have. Good luck!

Social Thursday - What's This Funk I'm In?

A little over a week from today will be my 22nd birthday. I will be TWENTY-TWO and no, Taylor, I’m definitely not feeling it. Lately I’ve been in a sort of funk that I can’t shake. There’s a list of reasons that I could be feeling this way and they are as follows:
  • Most of my friends are graduating college this May, I am not.
  • A close friend of mine is up and moving to Chicago and I’m still at my parents house.
    • 3 friends of mine already up and moved to Florida a few years ago.
  • I’m having issues at work.
  • I actually still have no idea what I want to do in life.
  • I don’t have an endless supply of money, but I have an endless supply of things I want to do/complete
  • I feel alone most of the time, but I’m usually not.
  • I feel bad for having a boyfriend and not wanting to go out to bars with my friends.
  • I’m pretty positive my friends think I’m a bad friend.
  • I hide most of the stuff going on in my life from everyone except Connor and Kiana.
  • I want to make everyone happy all the time, but can’t.
  • I feel stuck.

Now I’ve gone back through and highlighted the items I feel like I can’t really control anymore than I have done already. I know I can’t make everyone happy, and that it isn't really my job but I will be there for people when they need me. I can’t control my issues at work anymore than I have done. I’m struggling getting the new management to actually see me as a good person and change how they view me as a person. Management says that they do understand and they do think I’m good but actions always speak louder than words, no matter where you are. My personality clashes with what they want and expect. I’ve been trying to make adjustments and compromise, but it isn’t enough. Maybe it is time for me to move onto another position elsewhere.

Maybe I need to completely change my surroundings. Maybe I need to change my location, go somewhere new and explore and find myself there. Maybe I need a million dollars because I honestly can’t afford to do that. Maybe I need to stop saying I don’t have money and just do it. Maybe I just need a vacation. Maybe I need to put the rest of the world on hold and just escape for a little while. That’s okay, right? I can’t afford that either, but does happiness really cost that much?

beach new smyrna

I can’t control how my friends feel about me having a boyfriend. The kid is my best friend. He is there for me at any moment I need him and I hope I’m there for him just as much. We’ve been together for almost three years. We spend almost every night together and I tell him everything that goes through my mind, including my funk I’ve been in. It hurts him to see me like this, but he’s trying to help. He understands.

"Wait for the person who pursues you, the one who will make an ordinary moment seem magical, the kind of person who brings out the best in you and makes you want to be a better person. Wait for the person who will be your best friend, the only person who will drop everything to be with you at anytime no matter what the circumstances. "

That quote explains almost everything Connor is to me. He’s more than that quote. I pray that my friends find themselves a Connor someday. I pray that they find someone who makes them feel the way he makes me feel every single moment of every single day. It’s not that my friends aren’t good friends, they are. I just don’t like to feel bad because I love someone so much and I’m so happy. I don’t like to go out to the bars with them because it’s not fun for me. It’s not a girls night - even though they really want it to be. It’s them searching for someone to make them happy and that’s okay. They can do that, but I shouldn’t be feeling bad because I don’t want to.

new years connor

Overall, I need to take some time for myself. I can’t find who I am or what I want to do if I’m constantly sitting in my room sad about things I can’t control. I need to make myself happy first, no matter what the price is.

Toned Up Tuesday - Fit Nika 101 Gym Guide

Over the past month or two I’ve fallen back in love with lifting weights. I should clarify that I don’t have cut abs or biceps; I’m definitely still a little soft in places. I eat pizza regularly - actually as I type that I realize I haven’t had pizza in a week or two. *Currently checks pulse to make sure still alive* If you’ve been following me for a little while now you know I’ve been doing the James Grage’s Rewired 9-Week Challenge. I actually still LOVE the challenge and the workouts that have been picked out. They work great - but I LOVE Nika way more.

Nika (@FitNika101) has been a huge fitness motivation of mine for awhile. I found her when Tumblr was really big at my school years ago and I’ve been following her on Instagram for almost as long as I’ve had Instagram. When she announced that she created a 16-week gym guide (also created a home guide but I only bought the gym one) I had to jump on it. I’ve been patient and trying to finish James Grage’s Rewired but I can’t. I want to jump into Nika’s guide. I would talk more about how amazing she is but my fan-girl will come out in full and I don’t want to expose that to you just yet…
I’m also doing this guide while following the If It Fits Your Macros (IIFYM) program that I mentioned in last week’s Toned Up Tuesday post. So as this posts goes up today,  Toned Up Tuesday, I will be posting the new starting measurements and before photos of the Fit Nika 101 gym guide. I invited you to follow me for the next 16 weeks either here on this blog or here on my fitness Instagram.

The IIFYM program has worked wonderfully for me lately. There are a few days where I hit my macros early and I don't get to have a satisfying dessert (stop judging me...) but then I remember that for the next day and I work harder to eat better so that I can have a treat because let's be honest, the treats are what keeps us going. AM I RIGHT LADIES?

*Would insert photo of York peppermint patty but already inhaled it - because it fits my macros.*

I'm currently three weeks into the program and I'm already feeling better about myself and my body. I feel like my confidence has gone up. I've accepted how thick my thighs can get and I've grown to love how strong my legs are. I understand that I have a long way to go to reach the goals I have set but for now, I'm happy and that is the most important thing for me right now.
