101 in 1001: Month 3 Update

Another month, another check in! These posts are starting to become my favorite because whenever I sit down and check over my list to see what I've completed I'm always surprised to see what I completed without realizing it or how much I've completed! I have so much more to do, but I hope you will all stick around to see how I complete all of these items before November 22, 2017! Click here to see my list!

  • I ran other 5K! I ran this one with my mom as well. The race was a hard one. I wrote some things about it in a Toned Up Tuesday post. It was a trail run so we added 10 minutes to our goal time. I finished mine in about 35/36 minutes even though my recorded time is about 39 minutes but I forgot to turn off MyMapRun until I was already walking back to finish with my mom :( . The computers at the race crashed so they were asking everyone to send in proof of their time. Even with the extra few minutes I still came in 3rd in my age group! We had no proof my mom's time but the race started at 8:45 A.M. and she finished at about 9:37 A.M.! From the online list and the times that are recorded, she came in fourth (to me, because times were not recorded by the actual race hosts). 
  • I went on a hike. I technically finished this hike with a friend before camp staff training started, but we can count camp staff training as well. I guess I should specified how many hikes....
  • Encourage someone to create their own 101 in 1001 days through my blog. Last month I told you that my friend Becca was going to create her own 101 in 1001 list that I inspired her to do! Well folks, it has been posted! I encourage you to go check out not only her list (which you can find by clicking here) but her blog as well!
  • I got CPR/First Aid certified. I had to for my new job, but it's official now. Now you can feel a little safer around me! 
  • More miles have been completed. I'm currently at 129/500 (as of 05/27/2014). I'm working a little harder now that I've been working on both Tone It Up's Bikini Series and Fit Nika 101's Gym Guide. 
Can't wait to see how much more I've completed by Month 4!

Atlanta Adventures: Braves, Braves, & a Little Bit More Braves

I was born in Jersey. I've lived in many different states, but I've been in Georgia too long to not become somewhat of an Atlanta sports fan. This spring the Atlanta Braves offered this "Spring Pass" that allowed fans to attend about 21 games for $50! That's right $50. The tickets are given to the fans about 2-3 hours before game time and you have no idea where you are sitting until you accept your tickets. Yes, we've gotten a lot of general admission tickets (which are still about $8 a ticket) but we've also gotten some awesome seats!

Atlanta Adventures: Braves -

It all started with Opening Day. My friend turned 25 the day before. I turned 22 the day afterwards. What else could you possibly want to do with your birthday than go to a Braves game? I bought the tickets for the birthday boy. Then, out of nowhere the Braves announced this Spring Pass. I hadn't even finished explaining what it was to my boyfriend before he handed my the $50 to buy the tickets. Previously-mentioned-birthday-boy also chipped in. We split the 4th ticket in half so we can bring friends to the games if we want too.

Basically general admission tickets. We spent the entire day tailgating. My friend Becca made some hotdogs beforehand that we chowed down on. They were bacon and cheddar dogs! How does one say no?! Braves won. Jumbotron twice.

Day two. My birthday. My best friends came. We ended up getting seats in club level! We also told the Braves it was my birthday and I got this awesome swag bag filled with a foam tomahawk, a ball, a hat, a magnet with the schedule and so much more! Make sure you always tell them it is your birthday!

Braves won.

Sunday, April 12, 2015.

Day three. No birthdays. Rest and recovery. People might have fallen asleep at the game. We were in the Outfield Pavilion but the upper level. It was nice because there was a rain delay. Braves lost.

We ended up skipping Monday but we went Tuesday.

Atlanta Adventures: Braves -

We technically had General Admission seats but we ended up sitting in the Braves Chophouse for most of the game. Braves lost.

We also skipped Wednesday, but only because it was a day game and all of us had to work. The Braves were away again until after the Beach Wedding we just attended. 

Monday, April 27, 2015.

We tailgated. General admission. It was just us three and my boyfriend also brought his boss. We ran into my best friend from high school as well! Braves won. Jumbotron appearance.

Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

Everyone ended up being busy so it was just my guy friend and I. This game was a hard game to watch. We had general admission and the Braves we up by like 8 runs and ended up letting the Nats come back and win it. Braves lost.

We ended up skipping Wednesday for a break because the Braves were on a 10-game homestand. We went on Thursday but no pictures were taken. Braves lost. 400 level seats, but not general admission!

Friday, May 1, 2015.

A game against the reds. We had general admission and honestly Turner Field was packed. I believe it was because it was the first weekend homestead since Opening Weekend! Everyone was there. It was a blast. Braves won.

Atlanta Adventues: Braves -

Twelve rows up behind the first base line? Don't mind if we do. We had friends that couldn't make it to this game and MAN did they miss out. The Braves did in fact lose but we had a great time. I have noticed though, people that sit in better seats are not as much fun, energetic and spirited as people are in General Admission. We actually had people get made when we would chop too much. Seriously people, don't sit in good seats where players can hear you cheering if you aren't going to cheer! 

We ended up skipping the rest of the homestand. We have a few tickets left before the Spring Pass expires, but honestly this was one of the best things the Atlanta Braves organization did for their fans! We got to see many games and we've had some of the best seats! I've spent more money than I probably would have at concessions. I'm becoming a bigger and bigger Atlanta Braves fans with each game, but don't worry I still love my Boston Red Sox. 

I highly suggest going a Braves game or any major league baseball game soon! They're perfect for Spring and Summer and I've always had a blast, even if they lose!

Toned Up Tuesday: Youtube & Vlogging

I could spend hours watching Youtube videos. I do spend hours watching Youtube videos. I watch anything from videos on how to french braid (I will never master this and cross it off my 101 in 1001 list) to everyday vlog videos from my favorite Youtubers.

I've been trying to do this for awhile, and I usually end up failing but today I am here to tell you that I have in fact started my own Youtube channel! Yay!! My videos are going to mostly be vlogs following the rest of my Fit Nika 101 gym guide until I become more comfortable and just do random videos of whatever I like. It's my channel. I promise I'll have a theme for you OCD folks out there!

Toned Up Tuesday: Setbacks, Refocusing & 5k #2!

It’s my favorite day of the week here on Operation Twenties: Toned Up Tuesday! If you are just starting to follow my journey please feel free to read the posts under the Toned Up Tuesday tab.

Before I go into my update on the Fit Nika 101 Gym Guide , I need to be more honest with everyone. These past three weeks have been hard. During week 5 I heading to a destination wedding and moved my rest days around so that all the workouts would be completed before the weekend was over. Go me, right? I came back and week 6 had started and well…. I couldn’t get my motivation back. I didn’t eat correctly and my workouts were not up to par. I completed the week, but I knew that there had been no progress made. Week 7 was similar, I was more motivated during my workouts but I still didn’t eat like I should’ve. Here we are during week 8 and I’m still not feeling proud of the progress I put in these past four weeks. I feel like I did a lot of maintaining the body I had worked my ass off for in the first four weeks, instead of kicking it into high gear like I should have.


Toned Up Tuesday 5K #2 -

Despite my lack of motivation - and cardio - I ran another  5K with my mom on Saturday. We ran the 80’s Rad Retro 5K and it was probably the most difficult run I’ve ever done in my life. It was mostly trails and mostly hills. I felt like my ankles were rolling for half of the 5K because I was forced to run on the sides of my feet! (If you know any details on how to avoid that during a race please feel free to comment below! It will be greatly appreciated by my ankles now!) I finished the 5K in about 35 minutes. I’m still waiting on the race results to be posted on the website because their computers crashed during the race. My mom finished in about 55 minutes. She was bummed because it was slower than her last 5K, but I reminded her that this was the hardest run she’s ever done and that she should still be proud! 

There are a few things that did annoy me about the race. It's Tuesday and the results still have not been posted when we were told that they would be posted immediately. They said their computer crashed and that the results would be up Monday. I'm trying to not be a princess but if your computer crashed on Saturday why wouldn't you be working extra hard to have them all up by the time Monday rolls around? Also, the race for 5K didn't start til 8:45 A.M. I just feel like that is a really late start to a day. Like I said, these things are few and little, but aren't the little things what brings it all together? 


I know I should be proud of both my 5K and the work I’m still putting in to reach the goals I want, but I just needed to refocus. I needed time to realize what was important to me. During the past few days of rest (because I rolled my ankles pretty bad during that 5K) I’ve realized that I need to find a middle ground between having fun with my friends and working out. I can’t be obsessed with working out that I ignore my friends, but I can’t put my workouts on the back burner. It’s all about time management. I need to focus on that.


The measurements that are not bolded are from the beginning of the Fit Nika 101 Guide and the bold measurements are through week 8 of Fit Nika 101 Guide. 

Chest: 37.5 inches // 38 inches // +0.25 inches

Waist: 32 inches // 29.75 inches // -2.25 inches

*Belly Button Waist (because “waist” seems to mean different areas to everyone): 33 inches // 32.25 inches // -0.75 inches

Hips: 38 inches // 40 inches // +2 inches 

Right Thigh: 21.5 inches // 23 inches // +1.5 inches

Right Calf: 14.25 inches // 14 inches // -0.25 inches

Weight Update: 159.2 lbs // 158.4 lbs. // +0.8 lbs.

I'm not exactly pleased with where my progress is at the moment. I feel like I've stalled out and that I'm turning around to head back to where I came from. These numbers weren't what I were expecting. They're better, which definitely helps in creating a little more motivation. I just have to remember that the half ass work I put in didn't get my the results I wanted. I need to work harder. I need to want this.

Tips for Packing for a Destination Wedding!

This post is being posted after I’ve been home and unpacked from the destination wedding I attended, but you can recap it here over at Eclectic Avenue run by my friend Becca!

Destination weddings. They’re great, beautiful, fun, happy…AND I’m the worst at packing, so what do I even pack? Do I bring more than one nice outfit? Do I even think about anything but the wedding? WHAT DO I EVEN WEAR TO A BEACH WEDDING? Trust me, I get it but I've done my best to try to make it easier on you - and me, let's be honest here - in the future.

Tips for Packing: Destination Weddings -

  1. Figure out how long you're going, how you're getting to the wedding and how long it's going to take. You might also want to figure out what the plans are for each day you are there (rehearsal, dinner, excursions). 
  2. If it's for a long weekend, I would say you don't really need a bag bigger than a carry on. If it's for more a whole week, I would suggest maybe a carry on size bag and another small bag or just go one large bag (like one you would have to check at the airport).

  3. Go upstairs and pull out enough underwear for the weekend. I always bring enough for each day I'm there and about 2 or 3 extra for emergencies, because you never really know what would happen. If you know what the plan for the weekend is beforehand you can better plan how many bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts), tops and dresses you need to bring. We arrived on a Thursday morning and planned on cooking in the first night, so we didn't need to bring an extra "nice" outfit. We went straight to the beach and stayed there for most of the day and evening. We stayed in and grilled out (saving $$$) and spent the night fishing by our room. We ended up spending the rehearsal day on the beach until everyone headed to the rehearsal and dinner. Most rehearsal dinners are semi-formal but check with the bridal party if you are unsure!
    - I ended up bringing 3 bathing suits and 3 shorts/tops and then 2 dresses and shoes to match! I tried to pick outfits that could be mixed and matched with other items that I packed so that I didn’t overpack! 
  4. Decide what you are going to wear the day of the wedding. I can't ever decide so I brought two dresses and let the other girls staying with me help pick out what was right. Here’s a list of items I brought to the destination wedding: 
  • 1 beach towel
  • 2 pairs flat sandals
  • 1 pair of wedge sandals
  • a pair of sneakers (you never know)
  • 3 bathing suits
  • 3 pairs of shorts (2 denim, 1 Nike short)
  • 6 pairs of undies, 2 bras, 2 sport bras
  • 2 tank tops, 2 t-shirts, 2 nice tops
  • 2 dresses

I threw my toiletries bag in and a book and my carry-on sized bag zipped right up! The key to packing is to always be prepared, but not overly prepared. Have a plan beforehand. Be able to mix and match outfits. Narrow down your outfits. I always lay mine out on my bed before packing so I can see how much/little I’m bringing!

Toned Up Tuesday: A Letter to You

Dear Loved One,

I'm going to start with an apology. I'm sorry I don't push you to stick to your goals and promises. I'm sorry I'm writing this letter instead of telling you face-to-face. I'm sorry for what this letter contains.

For almost my whole life I've listened to you complain about your weight and your body. I've watched you begin countless diets and exercise regimes. I've seen you succeed in some of them and fail in many others. I've seen you plan out so many goals. I've watched you get excited. I've watched those goals be put on the back burner. I've talked to you about these goals of yours and how you have to succeed in them, but here we are...

Currently you are trying to get back on track, which makes me extremely proud of you. I just can't stop myself from waiting to hear the next excuse as to why you ate poorly or why you didn't go for that 30 minute walk or why you can't go to the gym. How terrible is that? I'm expecting you to give up on your health because that's all I've ever seen you do. I want you to want to be healthy as bad as I want, but I can't force you to do this. Aren't you tired of being tired all the time? Aren't you tired of being bloated and feeling "gross" all the time? 

Your back hurts because you're lazy. You have a belly because you eat like crap every day. You are exhausted because you don't do anything. Get up and go for a walk and tell me you don't feel reenergized. Go to the gym and lift weights for an hour and tell me you don't feel like you can conquer anything. One salad once a month isn't going to make you skinny, just like eating a slice of pizza after a week full of healthy eating isn't going to make you fat. You're going to fail many times but if you stick with it I swear you will see the goals you want to see.

Please stick with it. Please get up and do something. I know you're tired, but please just promise me 30 minutes a day. That's all I'm asking. Please, I want you to be happy and healthy.
